I dragged myself to kitchen. Trying to cook something new drives the laziness away from me. I knew what I had to cook as a side dish as soon as I saw apples in the fruit bowl. Here is the recipe of the side dish I cooked within 10 minutes. I had to cook rice and sambhar as well of course, but it was ok to cook for another 1/2 hour with that amazing aroma of Apple pickle filled the kitchen.

Apple (I used green. It is ok to use red apples too) | 1 |
Turmeric powder | 1/2 tsp |
Chilli powder | 1 tsp |
Coriander/dhaniya powder | 1 tsp |
Salt to taste | to taste |
Lemon juice | 1 tsp |
To Temper | |
Oil | 1 tsp |
Mustard seeds | 1/2 tsp |
Fenugreek seeds | 1/4 tsp |
Grate/ finely chop the apple. They tend to turn brown if kept for a long time so it is best to chop then right before you are to cook it.
Drizzle the lemon juice over grated apple and keep it aside.
In a pan, heat oil and add mustard seeds and wait till they splutter.
Add fenugreek seeds and fry for a minute.
Take the pan out of flame and then add turmeric powder, Chilli powder and salt.
Also add coriander powder and give it a mix and keep the pan back in flame.
Add the grated apple and mix well.
Let it cook for 5 minutes and then remove from the flame.
Serve hot as a side dish to any meal.
- I had seen my mum prepare this from green mangoes. But this has a very different and very yummy taste.
